SKINCARE TIPS: TRANSITIONING FROM SUMMER TO FALL SEASON WITH YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE

The cold seasons can be harsh on the skin, especially for those of us with dark complexions. Therefore, I encourage you to update your skincare regimen as the seasons change. The skin tends to become drier during the cold months, and using moisturizer on the skin alone will not be enough to avoid damage to the skin. The ideal skincare products for the cold months are cleansing oils and facial oils.

While the water and humectant content in water-based moisturizers are highly beneficial to the skin as they help the skin’s surface hydrated, your skin contains more dead cells after summer. As such, you have to exfoliate. I do not recommend excessive exfoliation for those with a dark complexion as your melanin-rich skin is very sensitive and prone to trauma. Too much exfoliation can also deplete the skin of its natural moisture.

Moreover, use facial oils rich in vitamins like Vitamin C and Vitamin D. A super-rich antioxidant facial oil is ideal for your fall and winter skincare regimen. Replace your foaming or water-based cleansers with oil cleansers. Using a honey-based micellar cleansing oil is a must in the fall unless you have acne-prone skin.

Tips to transitioning your skincare routine as the seasons change:

  • Switch to either thicker moisturizer or incorporate facial oil in your daily routine.
  • Use your sunscreen containing SPF 30 daily. However, I understand we are living in a busy and fast pace moment. Use facial oils that contain Vitamin D to save time.
  • Use super-rich antioxidant serum as part of your morning skincare routine.
  • To manage your under-eye circles or puffiness, use eye cream regularly as well as a lip balm to prevent the lips from peeling.
  • Do not over-exfoliate. However, it is highly beneficial to exfoliate once per week.
  • Drink a lot of water to keep the skin fully hydrated.

Build your immune system. The skin has its immune system as well. Do not neglect to build the immune system of the skin.
